Little Rock is a prominent urban center in the state of Arkansas, and it also operates as the state's capital. As per the latest demographic data compiled by the United States Census Bureau, the city's population was recorded at 204,405 in 2022. The city's origins can be traced back to November 7, 1831, when it was founded on the southern bank of the Arkansas River, in proximity to the geographical center of the state. The city was established as the county seat of Pulaski County.

The appellation of the city was inspired by a rock formation that exists adjacent to the river, which was named "Little Rock" or "Le Petit Rocher" in French, by the explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe in 1722. The capital of the Arkansas Territory was moved to Little Rock from Arkansas Post in 1821, further cementing the city's significance as a cultural, commercial, and administrative hub in Arkansas.
